Watch: Alan Corbiere on the Treaty of Niagara
On August 1st 2014 Alan Corbiere visited the Centre for Aboriginal Initiatives to speak about the 250th Anniversary of the Treaty of Niagara. In the video above, Alan Corbiere leads us through the historical records of the terms and agreements negotiated between the British Crown and First Nations. Woven throughout Corbiere’s lecture is the assertion that treaty making was a process rather than a singular event. Corbiere explores the symbolic representations of treaty agreements through wampum belts, showing that agreements and promises were continually reasserted and renewed.
